nakee rock formation

We had a magical day at the Nakee Cave, Beung Karn, Thailand.

We picked up a guide from the front and walked 2.2 km up the mountain to see all the 14 Nakee heads.

Most of the tourism in this region is religious or spiritual based. People typically come to worship the Naga, Nakee or both.

Therefore, for some of the local believers, things must be done in a set order. Otherwise they find it disrespectful. Which got us in a bit of a surreal conversation with our host for the evening.

I’m still processing today’s experience. We’ve visited many places but never once felt  judged by the locals for the way we do things.

Hmmmm…

P.S. Naka is the male, king serpent. Nakee is the female, queen serpent.
